Daytime crate time is just as important as nighttime crate training, and for Cavapoos, it can actually be the harder part. Even though our Cavapoos are used to sleeping alone at night, the daytime feels completely different to them — the house is bright, people are moving around, kids are playing, and your puppy can hear every bit of activity. That makes it much more tempting for them to cry, fuss, or demand attention when placed in the crate during the day. Building short, positive crate sessions early on teaches your Cavapoo that the crate isn’t just a bedtime routine but a safe, cozy place they can relax anytime. Start with just a few minutes at a time, paired with a stuffed Kong, a soft chew, or a sprinkle of kibble to keep the experience positive. Gradually increase the duration as your puppy becomes more comfortable. This practice helps prevent separation anxiety, encourages independence, and gives your Cavapoo the confidence to settle even when you’re busy or out of sight.

Play‑pen time is equally valuable during the first week home. A play‑pen gives your Cavapoo freedom to explore, chew, and play without having full access to the house — which dramatically reduces accidents and overstimulation. Cavapoos are social, curious, and easily distracted, so a play‑pen creates a safe “yes space” where they can entertain themselves without getting into trouble. Rotate a few toys throughout the day to keep the environment interesting, and use the play‑pen during moments when you need to cook, clean, or focus on something else. This teaches your puppy that they don’t need constant interaction to be happy. It also helps them learn to self‑soothe, settle, and enjoy quiet time — skills that make the rest of puppyhood much smoother.
